Blossom-in-the-dust

T.U.L.I.P. is an acronym for “Tumaini Ladies Integration Program”. The word Tumaini means hope. But the whole name is much more than just a convenient acronym.

Our choice of "TULIP" as the name of our ministries was inspired by the fact that it embraces the beauty, the value and the meaning of one of the most beautiful flowers on this earth, the tulip.

The delightful tulip! What a fitting image to capture our calling, our conviction, commitment and passion restore hope, dignity, beauty and value of teenage girls in informal settlements in Nairobi.

If we leave them in their situations of poverty, these 'blossoms in the dust', are trampled upon, crushed, wasted and soon relegated to the terrible cycle of poverty they are born into. It is a sad sight to see teenage girls become mothers by the time they are fifteen, married by eighteen and abandoned by the time they twenty years of age. After that they will do anything to survive, they and their children. The thought of it all is enough to break your heart.

No girl should have to go through that in this day and age. TULIP is helping many envision a better life. Just look at these beautiful girls in school uniforms on the left of this column. Oh the beauty, the promise and the life of these flowers our girls when they break out of the wastefuls cycle!

We need you to enlist to change the life of a girl. There is no greater joy than to be a part of this awesome work of the Master, of whom it is said,

"a bruised reed he will not break, a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he leads justice to victory" Matthew 12: 20.

Jesus loves these girls who are boarn and bred in the slums, and he cares for them deeply. He wants to rescue them, nurture them and restore them to the abundant life.

But you and I have to be his hands, his feet, his mouth. Join the Master with us as we all gather these blossoms from the dust and bring them into the vases of his banquet hall...
